Model vehicle tires for Trumpeter, featuring Replikator Model Corporation branding.

Enhance the realism of your Cold War and Peacekeeping era Canadian armor with this 1/35 scale resin replacement wheel set. Designed for the AVGP (Armoured Vehicle General Purpose) fleet, this set replaces standard vinyl kit tires with highly detailed, weighted resin versions that capture the heft of these amphibious 6x6 vehicles.

  • Authentic "Loaded" Look: The AVGP family, while lighter than the LAV III, still carried significant weight in the field. These wheels feature a realistic "bulge" at the contact patch, simulating the vehicle's combat mass settling on the tires—a detail often missing from stock styrene or vinyl parts.

  • 6 Unique Rotations: To ensure a natural appearance, this set includes 6 road wheels, each cast at a different rotation. This prevents the unrealistic repetition of tread damage, sidewall lettering, or valve stem placement, ensuring no two wheels look identical on the model.

  • Complete Loadout: The set includes two unweighted spare tires (no bulge), perfect for mounting on the rear door racks or hull storage points common on Grizzly and Cougar variants.

  • Early Tread Pattern: Accurately reproduces the original tire tread pattern used when the vehicles first entered service in the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s/90s.

The AVGP Family in the Canadian Army

Introduced in 1976, the AVGP (Armoured Vehicle General Purpose) series was the Canadian Army's first foray into the wheeled armoured vehicle concept, based on the Swiss MOWAG Piranha I 6x6 chassis. The fleet consisted of three distinct variants:

  • The Cougar: A fire support vehicle equipped with the turret of a British Scorpion tank (76mm gun), used for direct fire support and reconnaissance.

  • The Grizzly: An Infantry Section Carrier (ISC) designed to transport infantry squads, equipped with a modest turret mounting a .50 cal and a C6 machine gun.

  • The Husky: A maintenance and recovery vehicle fitted with a crane to support the fleet.

These vehicles were the workhorses of Canadian peacekeeping missions for decades, seeing extensive service in Cyprus, Bosnia, and Somalia. They were also used for domestic training before being phased out and replaced by the LAV III and TAPV.

Recommended for: 1/35 Trumpeter AVGP Cougar, Grizzly, and Husky kits.
