Take your LAV III build to the next level of realism with this 1/35 scale resin replacement wheel set. Designed to replace the standard vinyl kit tires, this set accurately depicts the heavy, "dug-in" look of a fully loaded combat vehicle.
-
Realistic Weight Effect: The LAV III is a heavy beast (approx. 17 tonnes combat loaded). Standard kit tires often look like inflated balloons. These wheels feature a realistic "bulge" and flattened bottom, simulating the mass of the armor pressing down on the run-flat tires.
-
8 Unique Orientations: To ensure your model looks natural, the set includes 8 road wheels, each cast at a different rotation. This prevents the unrealistic "cookie-cutter" look where tire branding, tread patterns, and valve stems align perfectly on every wheel.
-
Early Hub Pattern: These wheels feature the specific "Early Style" wheel hubs, making them historically accurate for LAV IIIs as they appeared upon initial delivery and during the early years of the Afghanistan mission (ISAF).
-
Spare Included: Includes one unweighted spare tire with no bulge, perfect for mounting on the hull or rear rack.
The LAV III in the Canadian Army
The LAV III (Light Armoured Vehicle III), nicknamed the "Kodiak," is the backbone of the Canadian Army's mechanized infantry. Entering service in 1999 to replace the aging M113 and Grizzly fleets, it is based on the Swiss Mowag Piranha IIIH 8x8 chassis.
-
Firepower & Mobility: Armed with a turret-mounted 25mm M242 Bushmaster chain gun and a coaxial C6 machine gun, the LAV III combines distinct firepower with high off-road mobility, capable of speeds up to 100 km/h on roads.
-
Combat History: The vehicle became the symbol of Canada's combat mission in Afghanistan. It provided critical protection and mobility in the harsh terrain of Kandahar province, evolving through various up-armor packages to withstand IED threats. While significantly upgraded into the LAV 6.0 in recent years, the classic LAV III remains an icon of modern Canadian military history.
