German Infantry in WWII

The German Infantry, or Infanterie, formed the backbone of the Wehrmacht throughout the Second World War. From the lightning advances of the Blitzkrieg to the brutal defensive fighting on the Eastern Front, they were the core fighting force. Equipped with a variety of rifles, machine guns, and support weapons, these soldiers were known for their discipline, professional training, and ability to adapt to a wide range of combat environments.

The Feldgendarmerie

The Feldgendarmerie, or "Field Gendarmerie," were the military police of the Wehrmacht. Often referred to as "Chained Dogs" by other soldiers due to the distinctive metal gorget they wore around their necks, their duties were varied and essential. They maintained military discipline, controlled traffic, managed troop movements, and policed captured territories. They were a visible symbol of order and authority, operating both behind the front lines and in combat zones, often in conjunction with dogs for patrol and security duties.

The Figures

This set includes two meticulously sculpted Feldgendarmerie figures, each with a leashed German Shepherd, highlighting their role in maintaining order.

Figure 1: A Feldgendarmerie wearing an M1935 Field Greatcoat, a symbol of authority, perfect for depicting a cold weather or garrison scene.

Figure 2: A Feldgendarmerie in a standard 1942 pattern tunic over M1935 Tunic and Trousers, representing a more common field appearance.

Both figures are equipped with the iconic gear of a German military policeman:

  • M1935 Belt: A standard leather belt used to carry equipment.
  • Kar.98k 7.92 Mauser rifles: The standard-issue bolt-action rifle of the German Army, carried by both figures.
  • M1911 Cartridge pouches: Used to carry ammunition for their rifles.
  • 1935 pattern helmets: The classic steel helmet of the German Army.
  • Jackboots: A key part of the German military uniform.
  • Feldgendarmerie gorget: The distinctive metal breastplate that identified them as military police.

This set is a must-have for diorama builders and collectors who want to add a unique and historically accurate element to their WWII German collection.
