Upgrade your modern Canadian armor projects with this 1/35 scale resin replacement wheel set, specifically designed to replicate the "Late Style" hubs found on up-armored and later-production LAV IIIs. This set provides the critical "weighted" look essential for depicting a vehicle heavy with combat upgrades.

  • "Late Style" Hubs: Accurately reproduces the reinforced hub pattern seen on later variants of the LAV III, particularly those deployed in the latter stages of the Afghanistan mission and during domestic training post-2010. This is a key detail for accurate modeling of the LAV III LORIT or upgraded chassis.

  • Combat Weight Effect: As the war in Afghanistan progressed, the LAV III received significant armor packages (MEXAS, slat armor, etc.), drastically increasing its weight. These wheels feature a realistic bulge and flattened contact patch to simulate this immense downward pressure on the Michelin XML tires.

The LAV III: Evolution in the Canadian Army

The LAV III (Light Armoured Vehicle III) served as the primary mechanized infantry vehicle for the Canadian Army throughout the war in Afghanistan. While highly capable upon its introduction in 1999, the realities of asymmetric warfare and IED threats necessitated constant evolution.

  • Up-Armored & Upgraded: As the mission shifted to the dangerous Kandahar province, the LAV III fleet was rapidly upgraded. This "Late" period saw the addition of heavy bolt-on armour, turret shields, and electronic countermeasures.

  • The Heavyweight Contender: These upgrades saved countless lives but added tons of weight to the chassis, stressing the suspension and tires. Modeling a "Late" LAV III without weighted wheels misses a crucial aspect of the vehicle's stance and character during this intense operational period.
